Welcome Back, Blissful Attitude Community!
Do you remember when life was simple, and every day felt like an adventure? A time when the world was full of wonder, and everything seemed possible? So, what’s holding us back from continuing to live that way? Why not embrace that childlike joy and curiosity once again? Let’s explore how reconnecting with our inner child can bring back the fun, freedom, and pure happiness we all deserve!
What is the Inner Child?
Our “inner child” refers to the childlike aspects of our personalities, including memories and experiences that trigger emotions from our younger years. It reflects the innocence, creativity, and vulnerability we experienced as children. As we grow older and take on more responsibilities, it’s easy to lose touch with these aspects of ourselves, buried under to-do lists, financial stress, mundane work, and household upkeep. But what if we could bring our inner child along with us? What if we could create space for it to thrive, even as we grow, making life more enjoyable and blissful?
The truth is, we don’t have to leave our inner child behind—we can carry our childlike joy with us, allowing it to enhance our adult lives. One of the best ways to do this is by embracing the power of play. Play isn’t just for kids; it’s a tool that helps us tap into our creativity, reduce stress, and reconnect with that sense of wonder and spontaneity. By incorporating playful moments into our daily routines, we can embrace our inner child and bring more joy, freedom, and bliss into our everyday lives.
The Power of Play in Adult Life
We shared several fun ideas to spark your inner child in our last post, "Welcoming April’s Creative Energy & Playfulness." Now, let's dive into different types of play you can add to your daily routine: creative play, physical play, social play, mindful/quiet play, and digital play. Here are a few of my favorite ways to incorporate play into my day:
- Dream building on my Pinterest board (digital play)
- Goofy voices and accents in our daily conversations (social play)
- Making up songs for whatever I’m doing (creative play)
- We love to hike—I make up a competition or narrate our hike like it’s a race or game show—my husband plays right along (physical/creative play)
- Creating competitions with my workload—how much can I get done in an hour? Can I beat my record? (mindful/quiet play)
- Playing puzzle games digitally and physical puzzles (mindful/quiet play)
- Random dance breaks with myself and friends (physical play)
- Sending funny memes, pictures, and videos with fun filters to long-distance friends (digital play)
- Being spontaneous—we say yes and get out of the house (physical/social play)
Bringing Play into Your Life
There are countless other ways to add play to your daily routine and reconnect with your inner child. Take a moment to think about what you really want to do, where you want to explore, or experiences you’ve always wanted but haven’t made time for yet. Schedule fun time into your week and create a new experience. Remember, it’s so important to live your life with joy and curiosity—just like when you were a child.
Embrace your inner child, be playful, and live your life to the fullest. Laugh with yourself and others. Bring that childlike joy into your moments and create more belly laughs. I challenge you to belly laugh at least once this week. Share with us on Instagram or in the comments below what you do to bring laughter and joy into your daily routines!
